The body is a complex marriage of systems and structure. By blending the complimentary modalities of body rolling and yoga, you will get a direct experience of how myofascial release can assist you in accelerating your practice. Nancy will show you how yoga can improve your circulation and breathing, and how a balanced yoga practice will place you firmly in your heart, a place from which you can act with compassion and love.

DEVELOPING YOUR YOGA HOME PRACTICE
March 8, 2008

You know that you feel better on the days you come to yoga class. But some days there are no classes offered, or you can't make it, or you're traveling for an extended period of time. This workshop will help you develop your home practice. Learn how to craft a practice to fit your mood as well as the amount of time you have. There will be plenty of time for Q & A, as well as a discussion of how to develop the discipline to practice regularly. Prior yoga experience suggested. All levels welcome.

YOGA FOR UPPER BODY STRENGTH (THE RITE TO BARE ARMS)

You want buff, toned arms, but you hate free weights, curls, and machines? Have you been working with dumbbells and still don't see the results you want? Have we got the class for you! Yoga builds upper body strength, confidence and sleek, cut shoulders and triceps. Yogic arm balances don't always require mere strength - practicing them also develops patience, concentration, perseverance, and a sense of humor. Using your body's weight as resistance, we will concentrate on yoga moves highlighting the upper body. Taking a yogic approach to building chest, arm and shoulder strength emphasizes the interconnectedness of the entire body. Arm balances provide an excellent opportunity to practice blending seriousness and playfulness. Conquering the challenging poses brings a sense of accomplishment and overcoming fear to the calming effects of inversions. On a more spiritual level, yoga exercises can help more athletic, tightly wound individuals develop the very things they may be lacking: not just physical strength and flexibility, but also patience and insight. There will be partner work, and some instruction in Thai-Yoga-inspired hand and arm massage. Yummy, and fat-free! Come sweat, stretch, balance and play.

PASSIVE STRETCHING: YIN YOGA & BODY ROLLING with Nancy
Saturday, April 26 ~ 10-12:30pm, $43 ($38 if registered and paid by 4/23)

Yoga is more than just making shapes with the body. The overall goal is to enhance the flow of life-force energy, known as qi or prana, throughout our beings. Longer-held yin yoga postures gently stimulate the subtle flow of qi through the connective tissue as well as muscle. The self-massage techniques of Body Rolling help us access prana that is blocked or stagnant within these deeper, more fibrous tissues. Get the greatest possible benefit from your yoga practice by combining both. Learn to love the more meditative aspect of your practice.
